The Cursed Darkness - Purchases

From Milton Keynes RPG Club

The various powers, allies items and artefacts available to a character during creation are listed here.

Powers

Any of the powers, in any of the sections of Amber DRPG or Shadow Knight are available, including those listed under the Elders, such as Exalted Powers. No partial powers are allowed.

Pattern

To take Pattern after character creation will require taking an 'Amber Devotee' at start.

Logrus

Logrus does not require Shapeshifting as a prerequisite. The Logrus is not based in the Courts of Chaos, and the initiation process is different, though the abilities it conveys remain the same. The Logrus is a well of infinite blackness within the Cursed Darkness in the Valley of Garnath.

Shapeshifting

Shapeshifting is not connected in any way with the mostly unknown Chaos|Courts of Chaos]]. The most common types of Shapeshifters are beings from out of shadow such as Weir, or those like Dworkin, who can use Sorcery to change shape.

Trump Artistry

Trump Artistry can either be self taught, or learned from a teacher. Bleys, Caine and Fiona are definitely not Trump Artists. The only commonly known Trump Artist is Dworkin. (I can make some other suggestions for you if you want to take this route.)

This is a mostly solo PC thread campaign, so a good time to take a Trump Artist. You won’t lose out on story just because your character spends two days creating a new Trump!

Sorcery

As in the books. This is a mostly solo PC thread campaign, so a good time to take Sorcery. You won’t lose out on story just because you are taking the time to hang new spells. You might also want to consider taking Instant Sorcery for thirty points.

  • Instant Sorcery (30 points)

Taking this power means you can ignore the lynchpin and hanging spells rules completely. Think of a spell, cast it, and see the effects. The only delay is a seconds or two for your own body and awareness act. Possibly, some extremely complicated spells will take longer to create. This is more the design process than anything else. But once you have the concepts down, you can cast that spell at any time afterwards near instantly. Works across most shadow, Amber, and other real realms.

Conjuration

As in the books. This is a mostly solo PC thread campaign, so a good time to take Conjuration. You won’t lose out on story just because you are taking the time to create new items. You might also want to consider taking Instant Conjuration for forty points.

  • Instant Conjuration (40 points)

With this power, think of an item, wish it into being, and it will there. Even magical armour and weapons (usually costing points or extra points can be created within seconds). You can only build physical things however - you can't create magical forcefields, though you can conjure a wall of thick titanium, or something similar. Complicated artefacts you need to design or redesign may take a few hours. Works across most shadow, Amber, and other real realms.

Funky Powers tm.

Funky Powers from either of the rulebooks may be available if you flatter the GM, and come up with a good story as to why your character has it. This includes Exalted powers.

Allies

Amber Devotee is needed if you don’t have Pattern but want to be able to take it later on. Amber Devotee will also grant you a standard Trump Deck.

Lords of Chaos are both mysterious and different in this campaign, but you can still take a Chaos Devotee if you want one.
