Tale of Years

496
Battle of Broughton; Sussex attacks Salisbury, held back. James flees Sussex. Eva's new child (David) replaced by a changeling. James returns to Salisbury. Player Knights dream of a serpent in Cricklade and kill Gordobuc the Fiend. Salisbury allies with Cerdic of the Gwessi (Wessex).
497
Bishop Roger imprisoned, land confiscated. Salisbury joins Cerdic's army and conquers Isle of Wight, rewarded with gift of 10 manors. Essex demands tribute, Salisbury refuses; mutual counter-raiding was ineffectual. Salisbury knights unsuccessfully look for Castle Sauvage. (Elsewhere, Thebert usurps seat of Marlboro, Ulfius allies with Sussex, Idres takes Tintagel, sundry outlying manors change hands.)
498
Bishop Roger released from prison after intervention from Dubricus. Cerdic calls on Salisbury to take western Hampshire. A short battle leads to a long siege of Hantonne. Salisbury knights negotiate release of Count Hampshire's wife and daughters, then smuggle out his son. They engineer a distraction in the Wessex army, allowing Count Hampshire and much of his army to escape. Western Hampshire taken by Cerdic. Cerdic demands homage from Salisbury. Salisbury regents reject this, end up killing Cerdic and escaping with his son as a hostage.
499
King Pellinore, chasing the Questing Beast, is captured by the goddess Diana in the Forest of Gloom. Knights of Salisbury rescue him, at some cost. Sir Borg and Sir Rholyn express discomfort with the conduct of the current regents of Salisbury. Salisbury sends forces to aid Count Hampshire against the Saxons in Wessex.
500
Dame Eva sees King Sauvage and reclaims her son. She becomes Bishop of Venta, sent to reclaim Caercolun from the Saxons. Salisbury forms an alliance with factions in Wessex to fight Hampshire, Sussex, and Silchester.
501
Player Knights bring an uneasy peace between the rump Hampshire and Wessex. Salisbury and Hampshire/Wessex attacks Sussex, but discord in the command means the battle is inconclusive.
502
Player Knights sneak to Goldsworth and steal treasures from the sacred tree. They return to Wessex with the gifts, which cements the alliance between Salisbury, Hampshire, and Wessex.
503
Salisbury attacks Marlboro, attempting to oust the usurper Lord Thebert. The battle is a draw.
504
Some Player Knights visit Silchester to give an ultimatum to Duke Ulfius. They are refused. Salisbury, Hampshire/Wessex, and Rydychan combine forces to attack Silchester. Sir Eliot is killed by berserkers; most of the other other Player Knights are nearly killed. The battle overall is a success. Half of Silchester is conquered, and Duke Ulfius pays homage to the child Earl Robert. Meanwhile, Djell the Spriggan takes Woodhouse castle.
505
Salisbury and its vassals join Nantelod in his failed attempt to recapture London. Many knights join him fighting the Angles. Meanwhile Jogron, a giant, erects a castle in western Salisbury.
506
Salisbury refuses offers of alliance from both King Idres and King Nantelod. Player Knights escort Nineve, Lady of the Lake, into the Forest Sauvage. She helps an old friend die and captures her last breath in a scarf. Some Player Knights secretly use it to kill Djell and the land around Woodhouse castle.
507
Nantelod pays Salisbury for passage for his army through the county. He liberates Somerset from Idres. Sussex heavily raids Hampshire; Kent and Essex heavily raid Ulfius's lands in Windsor.
508
Ælle leads an army to raid Hampshire. Salisbury, Hampshire, Wessex, and Silchester join forces with Nantelod to defeat them, guided by Sir James's intelligence. Ælle kills Nantelod, the PCs kill Ælle. The two armies dissolve. Argentum becomes Castellan of the Castle on the Borders.
